Reflections on Blogs

In today's educational technology class, my classmates introduced to us blogs. Their presentation was very clear, organized, and informational. I think blogs are really a good way to engage students in content area and to break down the wall of school. Building communities of learners is a more holistic and relevant pedagogy, and I think educational technology is a promising tool to reach this goal. I would suggest that for English Language Learners, teachers invite them to use their mother tongue to do blogging so that we can have multilingual blogs. This way, students feel they are respected and have motivation to bring up new stuff on specific topic. As for the blog assignment we discussed in class today, teachers can invite Hispanic students to share poems written in Spanish and introduce them to the whole class, so pupils can be students and teachers at the same time.

  1. Thank you for suggesting ways to use blogs with English learners. GREAT suggestions! I think it's critically important for educators to value each student's home language and to nurture and value its use. Your ideas would not only achieve that goal, but also enhance the instructional experience for all students.
