Sugata Mitra's "Hole in the Wall" Experiments

Sugata Mitra, professor of educational technology at Newcastle University (UK), talks about how children can learn by themselves and teach each other through technology. From his experiments, it is obvious that technology can be utilized to attract children’s attention and spur their innate interest to learn by themselves or with their peers. When students have interest, education happens. One thing worthy of notice is that some of his experiments took place in poor communities. That is, he brought technology to children who needed education most. If you are a believer in critical pedagogy, you might as well think about the possibility of borrowing the power of technology to accomplish educational equity. Though I identify myself as a leftist (the Frankfurt School) and a little bit conservative about the promise of technology, it is time, I think, for every educators to be open-minded and direct technology into a positive way in your class.
